1.4-Butanediol (BDO)

1.4-Butanediol has a wide range of applications. 1.4-butanediol is used as a chain extender and polyester raw material for the production of polyurethane elastomers; esters made from 1,4-butanediol are good plasticizers for cellulose, polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylates and polyesters 1.4-Butanediol has good hygroscopic elasticity. BDO can also prepare N-methylpyrrolidone, N-vinylpyrrolidone and other pyrrolidone derivatives, and can also be used in the preparation of vitamin B6, pesticides, herbicides and various process solvents, lubricants, humidifiers, softeners, adhesives and the role of brightening agents, solvents, wetting agents and plasticizers in the electroplating industry. 1.4-Butanediol ( BDO ) is used industrially as a solvent and in the manufacture of certain types of plastics, elastic fibers and polyurethanes. In organic chemistry, 1.4-butanediol is used in the synthesis of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL). In the presence of phosphoric acid and high temperatures, 1.4-Butanediol dehydrates into the important solvent tetrahydrofuran. At about 200°C, in the presence of a soluble ruthenium catalyst, the diol undergoes a dehydrogenation reaction to form butyrolactone. BDO is used to synthesize 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether, which is then used as an epoxy resin diluent.
