What is the function of tetrahydrofuran?

Tetrahydrofuran can dissolve organic or inorganic substances and is widely used in chemicals or coatings. It can also be used in dyes.
Tetrahydrofuran is an important organic synthetic raw material and a solvent with excellent performance. It is especially suitable for dissolving PVC, polyvinylidene chloride and butylaniline. It is also used to make synthetic fibers, synthetic resins, synthetic rubber, and many polymer materials and precision tapes. and solvents for the electroplating industry.
In the pharmaceutical industry, tetrahydrofuran can be used to produce Kebiqing, progesterone, rifomycin and as a pharmaceutical solvent.
Tetrahydrofuran itself can be polycondensed (repolymerized by ring-opening initiated by cations) into polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), also known as tetrahydrofuran homopolyether. PTMEG and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are made into special rubber that is wear-resistant, oil-resistant, has good low-temperature performance and high strength.

In organic chemistry, 1.4-butanediol is used in the synthesis of gamma-butyrolactone (GBL). In the presence of phosphoric acid and high temperatures, 1.4-Butanediol dehydrates into the important solvent tetrahydrofuran. At about 200°C, in the presence of a soluble ruthenium catalyst, the diol undergoes a dehydrogenation reaction to form butyrolactone. BDO is used to synthesize 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether, which is then used as an epoxy resin diluent.
