1.4-Butanediol (BDO)

1,4-Butanediol (BDO) is an organic substance with molecular formula C4H10O2 and molecular weight 90.12. Appearance is colorless or light yellow oily liquid. Flammable, freezing point 20.1℃, refractive index 1.4461. soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, slightly soluble in ether. 1.4-Butanediol (BDO) is hygroscopic and has a bitter taste, but slightly sweet in the mouth. Used as solvent and humidifier, also used as plasticizer, drug, polyester resin, polyurethane resin, etc.

1.4-Butanediol (chemical formula: HOCH2CH2CH2CH2OH) is one of the isomers of butanediol, a terminal dihydroxy substituent of butane, which is a colorless, viscous liquid at room temperature. Industrially, BDO is produced by allowing acetylene to react with two molecules of formaldehyde to form BDO, which is then hydrogenated. BDO can also be obtained by gas-phase hydrogenation of anhydrides.
